Avoidant Personality Disorder

Avoidant Personality Disorder involves pervasive feelings of alienation and social ineptitude.  Extreme sensitivity to negative comments of others and feelings of inadequacy are common.  Extreme unwillingness to take usual risks may also be present.  For instance, a sufferer may be unwilling to try a new sport or meet a new person due to risk of failure or rejection.

Avoidant Personality Disorder is sometimes abbreviated as APD or AvPD.  Note although that this is sometimes also abbreviated as APD as is Antisocial Personality Disorder, these disorders are vastly different.
