If you’re in the Los Angeles area and are interested in the topic of domestic violence, there’s a conference From Ideology to Inclusion 2009: New Directions in Domestic Violence Research and Intervention this weekend featuring many notable speakers. If you’re not in the area but would like to attend DV training seminars, there’s a list of upcoming ones at National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence: Upcoming Trainings and Events Around the Country.
This is not a “men are abusers, women are victims” male-bashing style gathering. These presenters are interested in understanding and finding ways to address the problems of domestic violence, not in gender warfare. Their research acknowledges that domestic violence is problem regardless of gender.
A partial list of speakers:
Murray Straus, Ph.D.
Deborah Capaldi, Ph.D.
Don K. Dutton, Ph.D.
Daniel O’Leary, Ph.D.
Sandra Stith, Ph.D.
Richard Gelles, Ph.D.
If you mention “Glenn Sacks” or “Fathers & Families” at the door, you get a $100 discount and pay only $295. This includes a catered brunch, two breakfasts, lunches and afternoon snacks, plus two evening receptions with live entertainment.
The conference begins this Friday (6/26) at noon and goes through Saturday and Sunday. Register at the door at 10 AM on Friday or 7:30 AM on Saturday.
